Christmas Gift Ideas for Him

Christmas is definitely my favorite holiday of the year. I love everything about the holiday season however, it can also cause headaches when you don’t know what to get your loved ones and/or significant other. Men are especially hard because they’re either not that vocal about it or they have everything that they could want. These gift ideas are things that have worked for me so I hope they will work for you. Also, I buy all my gifts online usually using Ebates. If you don't know what that is it's basically a way for you to get money back for shopping online. Ebates has every store I've ever needed such as Amazon, Target, Macy's, School bookstores, smaller online stores, and the list can go on and on. You can use this link Here to create your Ebates account and start shopping now. Right now a ton of stores have maximized their money back percentage because of the holidays (yay)!
Here is the list of 12 things that would make great gifts for the guy in your life.

Being Positive !! 5 Tips on Becoming a More Positive Person

Being positive is one of the best things that you can be because it makes you stay sane throughout tough times.

Today I realized that so far the cold weather hasn't bothered me. Really random and probably strange for some of you but the reason that I am very surprised by this is because I am the type of person that absolutely hates the cold. Living in the Chicago area doesn't make it any better since our winters can be pretty brutal. Not only that but one day it can be a nice autumn day and the next it snows 10 inches (this literally happened last week). So as I was thinking about how crazy it is that it hasn't phased me, I realized that it's because lately I've been having a more positive outlook on life. I have found that being positive is honestly the best policy.

What's in My Makeup Bag?

Makeup bag

Lately I've been using my gold Ipsy glam bag as my go-to makeup bag because I love the color and the size is great for all the products I use on a daily basis.
I'm usually on the run so if I can't get a full face of makeup at home, I'll use most of the products in this bag before going to work or running errands.

My Quick (mini) Manicure Routine

Hey guys! Being that today is Mani Monday I wanted to show you guys a quick tutorial of how I personally do my own nails at home. I always get them done at a salon but I change my own polish like twice a week so I've gotten pretty good at doing them really fast while still making them look good.

My Top 3 Eyeshadow Palettes

Recently I've been wearing a lot of different color combinations on my eyes as opposed to the neutral looks that's I usually do. With it being fall and all I've decided to do a lot of darker looks. I've been using these three palettes for all of these looks.

1. Anastasia Beverly Hills World Traveler Couture palette
I've been using the Morocco and Fudge for a really autumn-y combination that literally reminds me of the leaves. In this picture I had this makeup on during the day time so I did not go too dark on the outer corner of the eye. However, I always make my eyeshadow darker or more dramatic once night time comes or I get off work lol.

3. The Lorac Pro pallete 2 is amazing because of their bold colors. The colors that I've been using a ton lately is Jade and Rosé. I have brown eyes so the green makes my eyes pop out more. Using these 2 colors make for an easy and fast look but if you want to make it more dramatic for a nighttime look then you can use the color Cocoa to smoke out the outer corner of the eye.

3. The Naked Smoky palette is made to give you dramatic looks and the awesome thing is that you can get brown or grey looks. I've been going for a golden but smoky look using the colors Dirtysweet for the inner corner, Radar for the lid and then Whiskey for the outer corner of the lid. This look is really metallic but if you haven't noticed I love using a really matte color as well as a metallic shadow to finish it off. This picture is also for the daytime so I didn't go too dark with the color Whiskey, however, for the night time look you can always go as dark as you want.

If you have any of these 3 palettes and have looks you'd like to share or if you recommend another palette please comment below !

Vacation on a budget !

Today I will be flying out to Los Angeles, California which happens to be one of my favorite places ever! I would spend my summers there as a kid however, I haven't been there as an adult so I cannot wait til I arrive. My boyfriend and I are going to be staying there for 6 days and although at first we were nervous because six days seems like a lot we decided to go for it anyways. Many people always ask me how is it that I am able to "afford" to go on vacations while having all these other bills to pay but it's really not that difficult as long as you're able to cut costs in other areas in order to be able to vacation with out spending a ton of money.

1. Stay with friends or at a very cheap hotel/hostel.
I personally don't know how I'd feel about staying at a hostile but I have heard great things about them. I also found a couple in the LA area on Airbnb for only $30-$40 a night! If you are traveling on your own or with a friend that might seem like a great option, especially since you shouldn't plan on actually spending time in the hostel other than to shower and sleep. Another great option is to stay with a friend or family member if possible. Luckily, we have a friend in LA who we will be staying with for 2 days. Not only does that cut costs down for a hotel but we will also have our own personal tour guide for that weekend. On the rest of our nights there we will be staying at an Airbnb in downtown LA since we already have activities planned in that are.

2. Travel during "off season"
This means traveling during slower months such as late September through late May or early June. The reason this is off season is because this is the time kids are in school meaning families take less vacations. I have taken 2 vacations this year and both were in off season months (January and May) and the weather was still pretty great. Flights are also cheaper and there will be flash sales for tickets which means you can get a roundtrip ticket for less than $100!

3. Don't eat at expensive places
When I travel I am all about the food. I love to eat new foods and I try to stick to the small authentic places because they taste better and it's a lot cheaper. I use the app Yelp to find a place near where we are staying that also has great reviews.

4. Use public transportation
I grew up in the suburbs so I am used to driving everywhere but when I travel I stick to using public transportation or Uber because it's a lot less expensive than taking a taxi everywhere. Also since I am under 25 years old, renting a car is also really expensive so I never go that route.

5. Do activities that are either free or almost free
When I went to New York I visited the Met museum and while in line I noticed it said that there was a $20 recommended donation. Then the people in front of us told us that the museum was technically free but that you could make a donation of even $1 in order to get in. We paid $5 each. There are other activities that you can find for either cheap or free you just have to make sure to look it up beforehand especially if money is an issue.

If you have any tips for traveling on a budget include it in the comments!!

My Top 3 Drugstore Foundations !

Earlier this year I started wearing liquid foundation regularly. Before then, I used to stick to my powder foundation but ever since I started the liquid I can't seem to get enough. I feel like it makes my makeup look well put together more so than the powder. Don't get me wrong I still love powder foundation and haven't ditched it altogether but I use it mainly when I'm in a rush and cannot spend time doing a full face of makeup.
Before I started using a foundation I spent a lot of time reading reviews on which liquid foundation was good for combination skin since my t-zone is oily and the outer part of my face can get really dry.

The first foundation I tried was the Infallible by L'Oreal in the shade Sun Beige. This was the more popular foundation at the time I was looking for one and since I already love L'Oreal products I decided to start with this one. I wore it for about 2 months and although I liked how matte it made my face look I also felt like it would dry my skin out. I would even mix it with about 3/4 foundation and 1/4 of the ELF tinted moisturizer since I needed some spf over the summer and it was still too dry. As the day went on I also felt like it would settle into the creases in my face which I did not like at all! I still think it was a great foundation to start with but I'm happy that I've found others that I love a lot more.

The next one I purchased is the Fit Me! Matte + Poreless foundation by Maybelline in the color Warm Honey and really love it because it's matte but still has like a natural finish. It is for oily to normal skin so I just think that it pairs up with my skin type really well. It also lasts all day long with out wearing off which is a huge plus. The packaging is also really nice and pretty compared to other drugstore foundations.

Lastly, I have the Revlon Airbrush Effect foundation in the color Medium Beige. So far I've noticed that the consistency is less thick than the other 2 foundations but I think that might be a good thing. I bought it a few days ago so I don't think I can make a decision on which I like best yet but if I did have to choose I'd pick the Maybelline Matte + Poreless foundation.

Do you use on of these already? If not are there any foundations that you would recommend?

Meal Prep Monday !!

So for this weeks meal prep I made a fairly easy meal that does not require a lot of time or ingredients.

I made grilled chicken with brown rice and a side of veggies. Because I knew I'd have a really busy week I decided to buy 1.5 lbs of organic chicken tenderloins, a bag of frozen veggies instead of "fresh veggies" and I also got Uncle Ben's Wholegrain Ready Rice. I used to always make my own rice but I never made a perfect batch I'd always over cook it or under cook it which led me to just throw it away. I then looked online to see if there was a difference between quick rice vs. homemade rice and this is what I found, "The lab found that there was no appreciable difference in the nutrient profiles of regular versus quick-cooking. Both are considered whole grains, and both are good sources or manganese, magnesium, selenium and fiber."
I am so happy to have found this because now I can continue to buy the quick rice with out feeling guilty about losing out on nutritional value.

First I season my chicken with my Mrs. Dash seasoning. I use the garlic herbs one because I really like garlic. Make sure to get both sides evenly.

Then I lay all the chicken on the pan to cook. While I do this I start either cutting up the veggies or in today's case I just had to open the bag of the stir fry veggie mix and also get that all in a pan.
The rice only takes one minute and a half to cook so I put that in the microwave.
Once the chicken is nice and brown on both sides and the veggies are done I put it all together in these Glad containers. They are really the best size for meal prepping. They might look small at first but its the perfect portion. They are also extremely affordable which is great.

That is it for my Meal Prep Monday! If you have any meal preps that you do share them with me :) !

Ipsy vs Birchbox - October 2015 Review

This month I had really mixed reviews on both of my subscriptions because I either really loved the products or I really disliked them. The reason I continue to receive my subscriptions is because just loving 2 or 3 of the 5 products makes the actual monthly cost really worth it.

This was the second Birchbox that I received and I was pretty happy with it because I loved 3 out of the 5 products. I can't wait to start using them!
1. Death Valley Dry Shampoo by R+Co in a really good sized bottle. This is my favorite product for this month because I've really been wanting to try a new dry shampoo and also because it smells so good! It's great for using as a dry shampoo or using it to add volume and texture to your hair.
2. Huge Extreme Lash Mascara by stila is also a sample size mascara in a really cute gold tube. I love the brush and can tell that it makes it look like I have more lashes when I put it on. This was a great product because I know it's something I'd definitely buy at the store.
3. HandDrink Hand Cream by Jane Iredale was the next product and considering it's a hand cream it came in a tiny bottle. It even states on the bottle that it is only for the "evaluation of texture and aesthetic properties only. Amount insufficient to provide stated SPF protection". That just goes to show how tiny it is. This is definitely a miss and not a hit for me.
4. BrightenUp! Enzymatic Face Rejuvinator from Varsani Cosmetics is a formula with tiny crystals that help exfoliate the skin. It smells really good and I love using exfoliates so I'll definitely be using this one.
5. Pomegranate Crush Illuminating Sheet Mask by BioRepublic was my last item and it was also a miss just because it's only one mask and although it's nice to try it, you also need to use 2-3 a week to get results.

This month I was really happy with Ipsy once again. I was extremely excited about 3 out of 5 items.
1. Meet Matt(e) Highes Long-Lasting Liquid Lipstick by theBalm is amazing! I love the way that the color looks on me the texture of the liquid lipstick is also really nice and even had a menthol-y or tingly sensation on your lips which I really enjoyed.
2. Hello Lashes by IT Cosmetics was another great product ! I love trying out new mascaras so I will definitely be using this one.
3. Come Clean facial scrub by Hey Honey is a really nice scrub w a good texture for sensitive skin. It smells good and I've had products from this brand before and I really like them.
4. Mini Browza Super Proof Gel Brow Pencil by Touch in Sol is amazing! I was about to go out and buy the Anastasia of Beverly Hills Brow Wiz pencil but I'm glad this came just in time. It even has the little eyebrow brush on the other end and the color matches my color perfectly!
5. Exotic &a Spicy Eau de Parfum by Aromachology was not a product I liked at all. It was a cute little perfume tester bottle but it smelled like flowers and I don't like it at all. I don't like perfume testers in general because I'm really picky about what I like.

Overall, I either really loved the products or I didn't like them at all however, I still recommend this to people who haven't tried these subscriptions out because it's a great way to test out new companies that u might really end up loving. Let me know what you love about your Ipsy or Birchbox subscription!

4 Reasons Why You Should Go Greek!

Thinking about joining a Sorority or Fraternity but aren't sure if it is right for you? I had the same question myself when I was a freshman in college. Going into college I knew nothing! I didn't know anyone that went to a university or that was in Greek organizations so I had to go searching for these things on my own. I remember going to the organization fair and seeing all the different Greek orgs that they had. At the time I was so confused and did not know anything about them so I decided to go to their informationals.

I went to a couple of sorority informationals with my friend and thought it was the weirdest thing ever. I thought that the concept of having a pledge parent or "big" sounded kind of lame. At the time, my perception of sororities and fraternities were all that I had seen on movies and TV. It looked like they got way too wild and that they only hazed. I also thought that being surrounded by a bunch of girls all the time just wasn't my thing. That is when I decided that no matter how fun Greek life looked, it just wasn't for me. So I stopped pursuing it.

That was until one year later when I went to a state university who was having a party for a co-ed Fraternity on their campus. I went with a bunch of my friends from school and headed over there. Once we were there I noticed that it was way different than any of the orgs we had on our campus. I just found it so much more friendly and it had a family aspect that I really enjoyed. That night my friends and I knew that was the fraternity that we'd want to pledge for.

It took a lot of hard work because we had to start that fraternity up at our school however, it was well worth it! Once you join a Greek organization, it is like joining another world of all these things you never knew before. You learn the greek alphabet and the terms that only greeks know. The best thing is that you meet so many people from other chapters/schools and those are the ones that become your life long friends. The crazy thing about that is you would have never met if it wasn't for being in that organization. I can truthfully say that I have met some of my great friends through this organization.

If you are wondering why I haven't named my organization yet, it is because I am not writing this post to promote my particular organization but instead to hopefully convince those who are thinking about joining one to just go for it! If you are paying 40K a year for your education you might as well get some fun out of it.

These are the 4 main reasons you should join a Greek organization this year ...

1. Lifelong friendships
You will meet so many people that have the same interests as you. You will be surprised to see that there are many people out there that can relate to you.

2. Unforgettable moments
You will be able to visit other chapters/schools so you will feel like you get to experience the school with out actually going there. You'll go to many parties and school events at your school as well as other schools. I went to a small university so being able to go to events at state universities gave me that "big school" experience. Even if you don't like to party a lot you will still meet people like you that will enjoy just hanging out just as much as you do. Keep in mind there are business and education greek organizations out there as well :)

3.Networking.
I got my current job through a member of my fraternity. Not only that but I worked with 3 other people that were in it so I didn't go through the awkward phase of not knowing anyone at work. I know many other people that have connections and it is all through this organization. There are also many different emails that you sign up to once you join that are specifically for job postings.

4. Make your college experience worth it!
I am not saying that the only way for you to experience college is to join a fraternity or sorority but it definitely makes it very fun. You will always have something to do on the weekdays and weekends.

Are you in a fraternity or sorority ? If you have any advice or experiences with fraternities or sororities please share them !

Best Makeup Bargain Brands!

Shopping is one of my favorite things to do however, I do try to save money where I can. I figure that if I save money then I'd be able to use that money towards something else. One of the things that I try saving money on is on beauty products. I won't go out and buy expensive makeup products that I have no idea about. For example, before I started wearing foundation I bought a less expensive one so that I could get the feel of that liquid texture on my face before buying another one. Same with primers and lipsticks. I will buy shades I don't own just to try them on. Once I know a certain shade or color looks good on me I'll buy a higher end lipstick in that color that will most likely look better and have a better formula.

If you are starting out using makeup and are still practicing your skills then Elf is a perfect brand to start using. I have been using Elf for years now and even though I have moved on to higher end brands I still like to try out less expensive products to see if I like a certain product or not. I tried their foundation first because I didn’t know how to even apply it so I was able to learn how to do it. I also absolutely love their blush and contour compact and I have not used other blushes. I especially love their brushes because they are very good quality and since they are so inexpensive you can have several of the same kind. Recently, I bought the 4 blush palette and the high definition powder with a brush to go with it. I have only tried it once but it made my face stay matte throughout the day and night. Elf also has zit zapper pen that you can spot on your face whenever you see a zit coming and the next day it will no longer be there. The crazy thing is that it actually works and it's only one dollar!

NYC is also a great brand with really affordable make up products. My favorite product that they have is their Liquid eyeliner. I actually bought this at a dollar store for one dollar years and years ago but they must've gotten very popular because now they are like $3 dollars at Walmart which is still an awesome price. I see different makeup artists using them on Youtube all the time so I know its not just me who thinks they are the best liquid eyeliners of all time.

Finally, if you do your nails on your own regularly then Sinful Colors nail polish is the way to go. They are only $2 at Walgreens and their colors are pretty nice. I buy them so often because they have new colors come out every season. These are the best polishes to buy if you want to try new colors. I also just use the Seche Vite top coat from Sallie's because it makes them look really shiny almost like they are gel nails.

I really recommend buying less expensive products before trying more expensive brands just because you never know if you'll even need that certain product or if you'll really like it. If you're new to using makeup you can expand your collection with less expensive staples that you'll probably end up wearing often. What are lower end or drug store brands you like to wear?

10 Best Things About Fall

Happy first day of Fall!! In honor of today's date I will be sharing my top ten favorite things about this new season :)

1. Pumpkin everything. I love Pumpkin Spice Lattes and pumpkin pie with whipped cream on top!

2. Halloween. If dressing up in costumes was acceptable throughout the year I would definitely do it but it's not so I definitely look forward to it in October.

3. Comfy clothes and boots. Shorts and tank tops are cool and all but big and warm sweaters are much more comfy.

4. No more bugs.

5. Thanksgiving. Good food and family time is good for the soul.

6. Cuddling. They don't call it cuddle weather for no reason.

7. Perfect weather. Not too hot, not too cold.
and...
8. It's pretty! The leaves change color and the sky always looks so pretty.

9. Netflix and Movies. When it's too chilly to go out you can just hang out at home with friends or your significant other watching movies all night.

10. Christmas is coming! The most wonderful time of the year is almost here!

Ipsy vs. Birchbox September 2015

This month I decided to not only get Ipsy but to sign up for Birchbox as well. Like Ipsy, it is a monthly subscription for beauty products that only costs $10 a month. I hadn't heard as many reviews for Birchbox as I had for Ipsy but I decided to give it a try.

The Ipsy bag contained 5 different products which are
1. NYX colaborated with Ipsy for an eyeshadow trio. This is exclusive to Ipsy subscribers and I really love the colors because they are more on the neutral side. I love to wear browns and golds so I will be using this one for sure.
2. Lipstick by Liptini in the color special edition Startlet Cocktail. It is a really nice shade of red but since I prefer matte lipsticks I don't know if I'll wear it yet.
3. Formula X nail polish in the color Ignite is a really nice deep red. I love it because the polish goes on almost like a gel and it is just a really nice color.
4. Eau Thermale Soothing Moisture Mask is for redness or overly dry skin. Although I haven't used it I am looking forward to it since I sometimes get red spots on my face.
5. Lastly, I got a Rosehip and Hibiscus moisturizer from Bayberry Naturals which is a really fresh and light facial cream. I'm normally not a huge fan of creams and moisturizers but this one is nice.

The Birchbox contains 5 products also and I was pretty impressed for it being my first time receiving this subscription.
1. The first product that caught my eye was the Benefit Cosmetics Gimme Brow in the medium/deep color. It’s a sample size brow gel with a little applicator brush. I used it twice already and like how it keeps my brow hairs in place but I don’t think this is sufficient to make my eyebrows look the way I want them to. ip
2. Amika Shield Style Extending Spray is a spray that protects your hair against frizz and extreme heat. This is perfect for using it when traveling and the best thing about it is that is smells sooo good !
3. Dr. Brandt Pores no more cleanser is a best-selling face wash that is supposed to minimize pores in order to get that soft, smooth skin. I haven’t used it yet but I don’t think the size of the bottle is enough to fully make a judgement on it.
4. Harvey Prince has a perfume called Eau So Divine. It’s a good scent but I am just not very fond of perfume samples.
5. Last was the POP Beauty - POP Portfolio Eyeshadow in the shade Sugar Plum. It is a really nice and pigmented color palette and I know I will be using it for sure.

September was a really great month for Ipsy and although I did like Birchbox I think that Ipsy was the winner in my book. If you are wondering whether or not to subscribe to Ipsy or Birchbox I say go for it. It is only $10 a month and you can cancel whenever. Even if you don't always like everything that comes in the box/bag it is still worth the ten dollars and it's pretty fun to receive this each month.

Which was your favorite subscription this month?

10 THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT ME

So since I am pretty new to the "blogosphere" I have decided to create this list so that you can learn a little bit about me.

 1. I love to cook! This can be due to the fact that I love eating even more but the thought of learning a new recipe and sharing it with friends or family makes me happy.

 2. I hate to clean. No, that doesn't mean I am dirty it just means I despise having to clean my room or my bathroom. I really wish that I could pay a housekeeper to clean my house biweekly but since that isn't in my budget right now I guess I'll stick to half ass cleaning my house.

 3. I like a very wide variety of music. I could be listening to Coldplay one minute and the next minute I could be yelling out "2 Chainz!". It really all depends on my mood.

 4. I'm extremely independent. I have always been used to doing things on my own since a very young age so sometimes I don't ask for help when I need it.

 5. I am veryyy opinionated. Doesn't mean I will always voice my opinion but if someone asks me for my opinion then I'll definitely tell them what I think.

 6. I love to read! People look at me funny when I say that and I'm not sure whether it's because reading isn't a "cool" thing to do or if it's because they don't picture me as a reader. Regardless I have read hundreds of books and am always open to suggestions for my next read.

 7. I am a human GPS. Well, kinda. I pay real close attention to my surroundings so that I know how to get there again or back home with out an actual GPS. The reason for this is because my mom used to tell me that it's important to pay attention in case I ever got kidnapped. LOL.

 8. I am a Latina. More specifically I am Mexican American and I am very much fluent in Spanglish. I think I speak and write in both Spanish and English with out even realizing it.

 9. I am really bossy. I think that kind of goes along with me being a Latina lol. I really do think that things should be done my way or no way at all. (I am currently working on fixing that)

 10. I consider myself good at giving life advice. I've been through a lot of crazy events and experiences and would love to connect to people that have gone through similar situations.

I'm not that bad am I? If you want to know anything else about me make sure to comment below!
